Hey everybody!
I'm SOMA Breath instructor, Matthew Chavez.
I was born in southern California and now live in Washington state. My healing and personal growth journey began when I was diagnosed with a herniated disk in my lower back at the age of 18. Dissatisfied with traditional methods of treatment, I started looking elsewhere to find some answers to the pain I was experiencing.
Around this time I found things like shamanism, plant medicines, yoga, reiki, meditation and dreamwork. I became fascinated with learning all that I could about these different perspectives on healing. Despite all of this new found knowledge and a calling to commit to consistent implementation of practices and lifestyles changes, I failed to do so and my pain persisted for years to come.
Many years later I took a profound journey to Peru, in hopes of reconnecting to myself and gaining clarity in what direction I wanted to take my life. After that journey a ton of new doors opened to me, one of them being SOMA breath. Right away I knew this was a big part of what I had been looking for. I started practicing daily and it didn't take long before I fell in love it.
SOMA, amongst my other daily practices, helped me uncover a huge part of what I had failed to recognize, the relationship between my pain and the fact that I had been suppressing my emotions, my voice and the expression of my true nature for most of my life. Although I still with some back pain here and there, it is nowhere close to what it was and I know my daily SOMA practice has been a major part of that healing process.
I felt so grateful to have the tools to help me to embody an elevated state of consciousness daily and deepen my healing process not just physically but also emotionally and mentally as well. I knew I had to share it with others who are on a similar journey to me.
I now lead group workshops as well a 1-on-1 somatic coaching program.
