Harnessing Sexual Energy Copy

Asvini Mudra – Pelvic Floor Pulse

At the top of each inhale, you should gently squeeze your pelvic floor muscles. The same muscles as when you do the Mula Bandha (pelvic lock). The difference in this case, is that it is a short, pulsing action. Mula Bandha is a sustained contraction of these muscles. When you contract in a short, pulsing rhythm, it is called Asvini Mudra. Asvini Mudra stimulates your root and sacral chakras, which builds sexual energy. In Sanskrit, Asvini means horse and Mudra means sign. That doesn’t really say much about the technique!

The Asvini Mudra is activated easiest when you contract the sphincter muscles. That means pulling the sphincter muscles up, into your body.

Below is a step-by-step guide to learn how to contract and release for Asvini Mudra. You can use this to instruct your participants.

  • Inhale through your nose, into your belly first and then your chest. Squeeze your anal sphincter muscles like you are pulling them up into your body.
  • It may feel a bit strange at first to contract your sphincter muscles while you are breathing in. Just remember that you will soon get the hang of it with practice. Also, make sure that you are not activating other muscles at the same time, like your abdominal muscles. Keep the rest of your body relaxed.
  • Exhale and release the tension completely.
  • Repeat the exercise again. This time, imagine or visualise that you are shooting energy or white light up your spine and into your midbrain area when you inhale and contract the muscles.

A tip you can give participants for the Supercharge phase is to wait until you have inhaled with your belly before you contract your pelvic floor muscles. The rhythm would look something like this:

Breathe In, 2, 3 (gently contract), 4, Out (slowly release and relax), 2, 3, 4.

For women, contracting the pelvic floor area improves bowel and bladder control, and faster recovery after childbirth. It is also commonly practised during pregnancy. For men, it can help with a speedy recovery after prostate surgery, reducing the risk of rectal prolapse, and improving bowel and bladder control. It can also improve a man’s sexual function.

The consistent, rhythmical, pulsing action this requires during a workshop creates ecstatic states of bliss as the sexual energy is built up. Powerful emotional releases can occur, negative imprints from the past can be cleared, and moments of deep insight inspiration (“divine downloads”) make the SOMA Awakening experience truly unforgettable.

The Asvini Mudra is a great way to practice in preparation for the Mula Bandha.

Breathing In Beats With Pelvic Floor Pulse

As we now know, rhythmic breathing is already in itself extremely powerful. In SOMA, we are multiplying that power with the harnessing and transmutation of sexual energy.

By squeezing the pelvic floor muscles on each inhale, and releasing it on the exhale, we are tapping on this energy and accumulating it.

The sensitivity develops over time, so it’s a good idea remind your students to keep up with the practice. Eventually, this becomes like a “feel good button” that one can press at anytime and feel, really, really good. Even ecstatic!
