Throat Lock – Jalandhara Bandha Copy

Jalandhara comes from Sanskrit with Jal roughly meaning ‘throat’ and dhara meaning ‘holding’. Jalandhara as one word translates to ‘He who holds water’.

This lock is activated by bending your neck a little forward and slowly placing your chin down to your chest between your left and right clavicle, while keeping your back straight and raising your sternum.

This lock is said to activate and energise the throat chakra.

We use this in the out-breath retention phase in combination with the Mula Bandha lock during the in-breath retention phase.
